Days for Girls

Days for Girls at NCJW NSW is a practical community ‘making project’ that reflects the core values of NCJW: the empowerment of girls and women – by women for women. And one that also facilitates fantastic multi-generational connections.

Girls and women living in ‘menstrual poverty’ don’t have access to pads or other sanitary products and this results in school days lost at the very least. Research shows that incomplete education leads to earlier pregnancy and more children – as well as diminished work opportunities and life opportunities generally.

In our Days for Girls workshops we cut, pin, sew, and compile the components that go into reusable sanitary care kits for girls and women in disadvantaged communities across Australia and in developing countries. Our products are assembled into kits and distributed to their end-users by NSW’s largest Days for Girls chapter at Ryde.

Days for Girls does not stop with sanitary product donations. Through local partnerships and social enterprises, the organisation works to support menstrual health and reproductive education in a global grassroots network.

Days for Girls at NCJW NSW is supported by the Pinshaw Family Foundation.
